What is LiDAR?

Glossary Definition

LiDAR is an acronym of “Light Detection And Ranging” (or “laser imaging, detection, and ranging”). LiDAR sometimes is called 3D laser scanning, it is essentially a special combination of a 3D scanning and laser scanning.

With LiDAR, a pulsed laser is sent out to scan for the distances of everything in the environment around the LiDAR sensor. This then reads out an accurate distance map of everything in the surrounding area.
